Buddy's wheelchair

Some days Buddy gets around better than others. To help with the bad days, we've bought him booties with rubber soles. They help a great deal. But one day when Buddy was falling more than usual, I panicked and spent nearly $400 on a dog wheelchair. When we tried it out he moved backwards. We have two other dogs, a 10-year old fawn boxer named Daisy and her son Jasper, a 9-year old boxer mix. Buddy and his sibs think they're a pack. They love people, especially children, and they pretty much hate other dogs. The other dogs seemed in awe of the wheelchair as if Buddy was a king on his throne. However, Buddy didn't share their enthusiasm. So we decided he could get by without the char for a while yet although we may use the sling on it to support his back legs if needed. We've decided some physical rehabilitation is in order. So we've got him back on an exercise program....a daily walk down to the ponds. He loves to stand in the cool water and daydream that he's a fish. And we give him Rimadyl, Chrondo-Flex, flaxseed oil, multivitamins and Free and Easy by Dynamite along with a natural diet. His appetite is great and he doesn't appear to be in any pain. He just falls occasionally and can only get up and down certain stairs. When he falls, he moves his legs until he can get up and then he keeps on moving. Because he's the oldest, he insists on rushing to get in front of the pack. Daisy and Jasper seem to understand. They watch him warily, wincing whenever he falls. I decided to start this blog to monitor Buddy's progress and so others can cheer him on. I'm editing this on Oct 21st and am amazed to see all the ups and downs with Buddy's progress. Of interest, by Oct 21st he's only had to use the wheelchair for his walk once. Many things have helped him and I guess I'm determined to find a holistic solution.
